What Are We Looking For?

The role of the Solar Design / PV Specialist is to provide accurate, detailed, and code-compliant residential and commercial solar plan sets. The Solar / PV Specialist shall be able to provide at least 2-3 permit-ready plan sets per day with the use of a preset AutoCAD template.

You will be analyzing residential and commercial properties to determine the optimal placement of solar panels and the electrical interconnection of the PV system, through software such as Aurora Solar, Helioscope, and other web-based tools in Solar Design.

The Solar Design / PV Specialist must be experienced in managing the residential and commercial solar permitting process including knowledge of the local/state/federal solar code requirements and proper interaction with our clients and the city’s officials.

Performance Targets:

  • Prequalify new solar design requests by identifying accurate scopes of work through extensive reviewing and understanding of job requests, plans, details, specifications, photos, and any other project documentation provided by our clients.
  • Review and properly comprehend construction plans, documents, and design change requests to ensure plan sets accurately matches the scope of the project and information.

  • Manage a proper Request for Information Process (RFI) and interaction with clients.

  • Communicate with our clients’ operation staff about design change requests.
  • Size photovoltaic/solar systems per customer requirements and electrical usage.
  • Perform and validate engineering calculations per the NEC and building codes to properly size equipment, and be updated on the latest equipment and industry best practices.

  • Draft accurate photovoltaic systems layouts, structural details, single-line diagrams, notes, and labels in AutoCAD as per code and city’s specifications

  • Facilitate timely and accurate plan sets. quantity surveys and bill of materials for solar systems. (QTO, BoM)

  • Provide accurate and detailed ROI solar analyses according to information provided by the customers.
  • Follow and improve standard operating procedures and protocols to ensure the accuracy of design layouts. 

  • Deliver accurate permit-ready plan sets in a timely manner and ensure the design department has a two-week look-ahead report of upcoming designs to be due to the clients. (Plan sets must be completed at least 24 hours before the due date.)

  • Maintain excellent relationships and generate an atmosphere of trust with our clients’ staff. 
  • Act as a proficient technical expert to the project owner and provide value engineering to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Interact proficiently with our clients’ architects, engineers, and construction managers to plan, estimate, and control efficiently multiple solar projects.

  • Elaborate accurate schedule of values and costs reports such as S curve, cash flow, and earned-value analyses for solar projects.

Necessary Skill Set Required:

  • B.S. or B.A. in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent field. (Required)

  • 6+ Years Cost Estimating / Construction Management Experience (Preferred)

  • Expert knowledge of the construction industry standards and local/state/federal building codes.

  • Expert ability to comprehend and elaborate construction documentation such as: request for proposals, project’s architectural and engineering specifications, bid package, and plan sets.

  • Expert understanding of the residential and multi-family exterior building envelope in the U.S

  • Expert knowledge of PlanSwift or similar estimating software.

  • Expert knowledge of Ms. Project, Ms. Excel, and Ms. Word.

  • Knowledge of LEAN-Six Sigma methodologies. (Preferred)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Results-oriented and the ability to meet deadlines while still producing high-quality work.

  • Provide a detailed scope of work and budget to our project managers and operating field personnel on project execution.
